ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø in São Paulo

We have been in the interior of São Paulo since 1955, when we arrived in ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø, the town we named ourselves after. In the state, we also have sites in ´³²¹³¦²¹°ù±ðí (1958), Limeira (1959) and Mogi das Cruzes (acquisition completed in 2023).

In addition to the plants that produce paper and pulp that are used in everyday products such as books, packaging, toilet paper and consumer goods, we have eucalyptus farms and native forest conservation areas in more than 110 locations in São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro. Our São Paulo operations employ a team of approximately 10,000 people, including company employees and contractors.

01.

Conservation of Endangered Primates

In partnership with the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV), we monitor southern muriquis (Brachyteles arachnoides), a native species from the Atlantic Forest. Southern muriquis, the largest primates in the Americas, are known as "forest gardeners" for helping spread plant seeds. There are currently only 20 populations of this species in Brazil, and we monitor and help conserve the ones found in some of our conservation areas.

02.

Bird Survey

An endangered species, the marsh antwren (Formicivora paludicola) is found in very few towns in São Paulo. The bird was one of the most extraordinary discoveries in Brazilian ornithology this century. In partnership with the Society for the Conservation of Birds of Brazil (Save Brasil), we monitor birds of this species that live in our conservation areas.

High Conservation Value Areas

In our São Paulo Forestry Business Unit (UNF-SP), we have 23 High Conservation Value Areas (HCVAs) that are extremely important for biodiversity—so much so that ten of them are considered exceptional locations. In total, they have more than 10,600 hectares of preserved native vegetation.

04.

Planos da Mata

Carried out by the SOS Mata Atlântica Foundation with our support, this project aims to structure local governance, in a participatory manner, to enable the creation of Municipal Plans for the Conservation and Recovery of the Atlantic Forest (PMMA, in Portuguese) in 33 Brazilian locations (14 of them in São Paulo) where we operate.

Ceramic Voices - Vargem do Tanque Ceramics

The Voices of Ceramics Project strengthens the local community by actively listening, reclaiming its ceramic heritage, and valuing traditional practices, thereby creating cultural, economic, and social inclusion opportunities. It focuses on training and collectively empowering the women ceramic artists of Vargem do Tanque, fostering entrepreneurial, communication, and self-confidence skills through active and rotating participation in events and fairs, and encouraging women's empowerment and autonomy.

Produce, Entrepreneur, and Connect - Minhoca Association

The Produce, Entrepreneur, and Connect Project aims to strengthen the Minhoca Agroecological Association by expanding its productive, commercial, and organizational capacity through the modernization of its agro-industry, equipment acquisition, and the implementation of a training program in entrepreneurship and associativism. The initiative seeks to increase productive efficiency, standardize and enhance product value with new packaging and processes, expand participation in fairs, events, and institutional markets, and strengthen the collective identity and brand. As a result, it promotes increased income, collective revenue, member autonomy, and productive engagement, in addition to consolidating a collaborative and lasting partnership with ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø.The program focuses on training and connection so that people living in poverty can be hired by us or by third-party companies in the Vale do Paraíba region (SP). In 2022, the initiative helped to lift 300 people out of the poverty line.

Partnership that Transforms

The 'Partnership that Transforms' project, in collaboration with the Americana municipal government, aims to expand income generation opportunities and empower local entrepreneurs. This is achieved through the expansion of commercial spaces, the development of corporate item suppliers, and continuous training via the Learning Path. The initiative also includes investment in management and monitoring, designed to structure businesses, boost results, and consolidate participants' autonomy.
In partnership with Sebrae, we developed the Seed Project, which aims to socially develop the regions of Alto Tietê and Vale do Paraíba. To this end, the initiative provides free mentoring and training to include people in vulnerable situations in the labor market. The project has already reached 2 thousand participants.

Solidarity Infrastructure and Climate Adaptation

The initiative developed by APROJUR aims to strengthen the logistical and productive infrastructure of family farming within the Santo Ângelo Sustainable Development Project (PDS). It seeks to expand the capacity for conservation, commercialization, and sustainability of local cooperatives. The initiative includes the installation of a communal cold storage unit and the acquisition of plastic crates for collective use, thereby promoting adaptation to climate change and strengthening the solidarity economy. With over 10 years of operation in the region, APROJUR coordinates the cooperatives in the local production chain — Cooprojur, Coopavat, and Coopasat — driving operational efficiency, collective organization, and income generation for family farmers.
Alongside the Labor Cooperative of Waste Pickers of Capão Bonito (Acamar), we implemented an Environmental Education Center at the association's headquarters, located in the Vila Santa Isabel community, to increase public awareness about recycling and increase selective collection in the region. Over 120 people have been lifted out of the poverty line with the program, which has already benefited 56 families.

Knowledge for all – Empoderatech

The project adopts a multifaceted approach to empower, employ, and foster entrepreneurship, utilizing both practical training and professional social networks as tools for integration and development in the job market. Its objectives include equipping individuals with digital literacy to prepare them for employability and entrepreneurship in the digital environment; offering career guidance, mental health support, and connecting them with employers and the professional world; and encouraging career building and future-focused professional development.

GAMT – Young Talents

To contribute to reducing the poverty rate of young apprentices' families by integrating young people into the job market through apprenticeship programs that will help lift people out of poverty. The initiative aims to operate under the Apprenticeship Law and create a pathway for young people even before they are referred to apprenticeships.
