Climate
Annually, the impact of the climate emergency on our lives becomes increasingly apparent. A World Bank study projected that by 2030, climate change and natural disasters could potentially force around 132 million people into poverty. Additionally, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports that 46% of the global population is deemed vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
To help face this crisis, we are committed to removing 40 million tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere by 2025 and reducing our greenhouse gas emission intensity (emissions per tonne of product) by 15% by 2030. Learn more about our long-term climate goals on the Commitments page.

With a forest area encompassing approximately 2.8 million hectares, including farms and conservation sites, and a daily planting of 1.2 million eucalyptus seedlings, coupled with our commitment to sustainable farm management, we actively seek to contribute to the removal of carbon dioxide, a primary greenhouse gas, from the atmosphere.
Not only that: we have one of the lowest indicators of greenhouse gas emission intensity in our industry, according to data from the Transition Pathway Initiative (TPI). Visit the TPI website to learn more.
Measuring our climate impacts
We have two important tools to help us assess our impact on the climate, aiming to reduce it, and to support our decision-making and innovation processes:
A technique for assessing the environmental aspects and potential impacts associated with our products and services, to guide our efforts to reduce our impact and develop a circular economy strategy. Currently, 82.2% of our product portfolio undergoes life cycle assessments
An essential tool to account for all removals that occur within our operations and the direct and indirect scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions. Based on the Inventory, we identify where most of our emissions occur and can create strategies to reduce them. It is based on this calculation that we commit to strategic actions, such as our Commitments to Renewing Life, with confidence and transparency. To learn more, check out our Greenhouse Gas Inventory.
Climate governance
Climate is one of the material topics that consider our impact on the economy, society and the environment, managed through a robust climate governance structure.
In addition to several areas and departments being directly responsible for initiatives to address climate change, climate-related matters are supervised by the company's senior leadership through the Board of Directors and the Sustainability Committee, the body responsible for defining and monitoring the climate change management strategy.
We also formally support the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and follow its recommendations as a reference for reporting potential climate-related financial impacts. Read more on the Sustainability Indicators page.
