Value Chain

Our value chain includes all processes in which we participate and the steps necessary to develop our products. It all starts with the planting and cultivation of eucalyptus, which is then taken to our plants to be processed and turned into pulp and other eucalyptus-based products. At each stage, including the choice and management of our suppliers, we keep our focus on ensuring sustainability, maintaining good relationships with our neighbors, managing our resources efficiently and reducing the waste we produce.

Production Stages

1. It All Starts With Eucalyptus

Our raw material

Concern for sustainable eucalyptus cultivation begins with the selection of the land where we will plant our seedlings. We are committed to Zero Deforestation, planting only in areas that have already been occupied by human activity, and we have a Wood Supply Policy that, in addition to reinforcing our commitment against deforestation, also verifies the origin of third-party wood. We act responsibly and in accordance with laws and best management practices. To learn more, check out our Certifications.

How We Plant

The planting process begins with the development of eucalyptus seedlings in our nurseries. Once the seedlings are ready, they are planted according to the mosaic planting technique, in which eucalyptus is interspersed with native vegetation.

This strategy is important to keep the environment healthy, as eucalyptus leaves and branches that fall to the ground turn into organic matter, which serves as a source of food for microorganisms, worms, insects, fungi, bacteria and other organisms. This helps maintain the soil nutrient cycle, establish native vegetation and protect against erosion and water evaporation. Mosaic planting also allows animals to move freely between eucalyptus farms and areas of native vegetation.

Tetrys Technology

Another tool we employ is the Tetrys technology, which uses big data and analytics to help us choose the best seedlings for each environment. This increases our productivity and reduces the risk of potential environmental issues, such as tree pests and diseases.

Water use

Unlike other crops, eucalyptus does not require irrigation at different steps of its production cycle. Therefore, our eucalyptus is only watered at the time of planting, always considering the climate conditions and biomes of each region where we operate.

Harvesting

Eucalyptus grows for six to seven years before it can be harvested. When the trees are ready to be used, we harvest them and transport the wood to our plants. To know more about land management, check out the Sustainability Indicators page.

2. In Our Plants, We Transform Eucalyptus Into Products

What We Produce

When the harvested eucalyptus trees arrive at our plants, they are cut and go through different processes that transform the wood into cellulose pulp and later into various everyday products. Learn more about what we produce on the Products and Brands page.

Pulp

Pulp can follow two paths: it can be used in our own production of different types of paper and hygiene items, and transformed into fluff cellulose; or it can be sent to other companies in Brazil and around the world and used to make hygiene items and different types of paper.

3. Careful Transportation and Sales

Responsible Logistics

Our sustainable solutions are sold throughout Brazil and in more than 100 other countries. To reach our customers, we have trucks, ports, ships and railway assets dedicated to our operations.

Lower Emissions

To reduce the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, we carry out several studies and implement initiatives such as optimizing routes worldwide, increasing the use of rail transportation and using electric vehicles in the São Paulo area.

4. Generating and Sharing Value With Our Suppliers

Collaborative Management

Through collaborative management and a team dedicated to monitoring and developing those who partner with us, we approve and register our suppliers, following not only legal criteria, but also our own sustainability requirements. Learn more on the Supplier Management page.

Good Practices

We encourage our partners to pursue certifications and have an internal process to ensure that the wood we purchase complies with our standards and requirements. Additionally, we have programs to develop best practices in innovation and sustainability in areas such as climate change, water care, and diversity, equity and inclusion.

5. In the End, Everything Is Renewed

Conscious consumption

Renewable raw materials, like the ones we produce, allow life cycles to be continuously renewed. This means that, after being used, many of our products can be recycled or biodegraded and become part of nature again.
